Making Tax Digital for VAT

Since April 2022, all VAT-registered businesses are required to submit their VAT returns digitally through HMRC-recognised, MTD-compatible software. Manual submission through the HMRC website is no longer permitted for the vast majority of VAT-registered businesses.

We handle all MTD-compliant VAT submissions on your behalf using industry-leading cloud accounting platforms, ensuring your business remains fully compliant with current requirements and is well-prepared for any future extensions of the MTD programme.

When Do You Need to Register for VAT

You are legally required to register for VAT when your taxable turnover exceeds the current registration threshold — set at £90,000 as at 2025. Registration must be completed within 30 days of exceeding this threshold, and failure to register on time can result in penalties.

You may also choose to register voluntarily below this threshold. Voluntary VAT registration can be advantageous for businesses that purchase significant volumes of VATable goods or services, or that supply primarily to other VAT-registered businesses. We can provide a clear assessment of whether voluntary registration is appropriate for your circumstances.
